Key construction milestone reached on Shenzhen-Nanning High-Speed Railway

Construction on the Guangdong section of the Shenzhen-Nanning High-Speed Railway has achieved a major breakthrough, with the successful connection between the exit of the Yunkai Mountain Tunnel and its No. 2 inclined shaft.
This milestone creates highly favorable conditions for the final breakthrough of the entire tunnel and marks significant progress in the construction of key control engineering along the Guangdong-Guangxi border.
The Yunkai Mountain Tunnel spans a total length of 10,617 meters and is engineered for a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour. Construction faced severe challenges due to complex geological conditions, with surrounding rock types alternating frequently throughout the excavation process.
To overcome these difficulties, the project team implemented an innovative shaped charge blasting technique. This cutting-edge process successfully reduced the number of drill holes per cycle by 50% and lowered unit explosive consumption by 5%. Additionally, the team utilized digitized management and control systems to ensure the quality of the tunnel's formation.
The Shenzhen-Nanning High-Speed Railway connects Guangdong province and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Originating in the eastern city of Shenzhen, Guangdong, and stretching west to Nanning, the capital of Guangxi, the line serves as a vital new high-speed rail corridor linking the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area directly to Southwest China.
Once the entire line is fully operational, the fastest travel time for high-speed trains between Shenzhen and Nanning will be slashed from the current 3.5 hours to just 2.5 hours.
