Luohu sees strong tourism and consumption growth during May Day holiday

Shenzhen's Luohu District recorded strong growth in tourism and consumption during the just-concluded May Day holiday, welcoming about 880,000 visitors.
The district's three major checkpoints handled more than 1.5 million cross-border trips, while 13 major shopping complexes attracted about 4.48 million visits and generated approximately 325 million yuan (US$44.9 million) in sales.
Cross-border leisure travel became a major highlight, with many Hong Kong and Macao residents entering Luohu for cycling, hiking, shopping and dining. The increase in passenger flows also boosted commercial areas near checkpoints, with restaurants and retailers reporting higher foot traffic and turnover.
Dongmen Pedestrian Street remained one of the district's busiest destinations, receiving more than 1.6 million visits during the holiday, up over 60% year on year. Luohu also hosted intangible cultural heritage performances and specialty product fairs. The event helped drive a 53% increase in same-day visitor traffic.
Major shopping centers across Luohu also rolled out concerts, family activities, film-related promotions and shopping discounts. KK TIME's "Sound of Luohu" concert series attracted more than 100,000 online and offline participants, boosting mall traffic by 48% and sales by 35% over two days.
The Shuibei gold and jewelry market was another major draw, attracting visitors from other cities looking to buy gold jewelry at competitive prices.
On Monday, the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Youth Avenue was officially unveiled. The corridor links landmarks including Luohu Checkpoint, Shenzhen Railway Station and the Guomao building, and is expected to support deeper Shenzhen-Hong Kong integration through youth-focused entrepreneurship, consumption and lifestyle projects.
