Luohu firm showcases GEO relay satellite at China Space Conference

From April 23 to 25, the 2026 China Space Conference was held in Chengdu, where Cangyu Space, a leading aerospace enterprise based in Shenzhen's Luohu district, presented its flagship innovation, "Cangyu 1," the world's first commercial geostationary orbit (GEO) relay satellite. The debut underscored Luohu's growing strength in the commercial high‑orbit relay satellite sector.
"Cangyu 1" has a designed lifespan of eight years and a dry mass of 1.7 tons. It features high‑rate data transmission, multi‑user low‑latency access and directional data delivery. Once operational, it will provide space‑based telemetry, tracking and information‑networking services for global users, including carrier rockets, low Earth orbit satellites and long‑endurance unmanned aerial vehicles. The satellite is scheduled to enter commercial service in 2027.
The exhibition booth attracted large numbers of young visitors and aerospace enthusiasts. Interactive science displays allowed the public to experience space technology up close, while the presence of "Cangyu 1" highlighted both the company's innovation capacity and Luohu's commitment to science education.
According to Wei Xiaohui, vice president of Cangyu Space, the company's relay system is designed to address the limitations of traditional ground‑based telemetry, which can only cover spacecraft for short periods during each orbit. The system aims to deliver all‑weather, high‑efficiency space‑based telemetry, data relay and global information interconnection for the commercial space sector.
Cangyu Space has already secured frequency and orbital resources for four GEO satellites and plans to launch its first GEO satellite by the end of 2026. Additional IGSO and MEO satellites will be deployed based on user demand, enabling full coverage of low‑orbit spacecraft. This expanded constellation will further improve data‑return timeliness and service diversity, offering tailored solutions for a wide range of industry users.
Looking ahead, Luohu will continue to strengthen its aerospace industry ecosystem, cultivate high‑quality enterprises and contribute to advancing China's capabilities in the space sector.
