Shenzhen schools welcome students back with warm traditions

On March 2, primary and secondary schools and kindergartens across Shenzhen started the new semester. Many campuses prepared special and creative welcomes to greet students and families.
At some school gates, dragon and lion dances added energy to the morning. Children joined simple traditional rites such as tidying their clothes, wearing a top scholar hat, receiving a small red dot on the forehead as a symbol of wisdom, drawing lucky lots, and joining fun blessing activities. These ceremonies helped students learn manners, feel respect for tradition, and begin the semester with confidence and joy.
In some kindergartens, children brought “Fu” (meaning good fortune) characters they had drawn themselves and placed them on a “fortune horse,” wishing for quick and lasting blessings in the new year. Families also hung handmade lanterns together, welcomed spring with lanterns in hand, and decorated a wall with red envelopes, filling it with good wishes for the semester ahead.
Music and laughter could be heard at other schools. A robot dog performed alongside a children’s choir, creating a cheerful atmosphere. Many students arrived holding their own calligraphy and drawings of “Fu,” ready to start a fresh term.
