Luohu to launch 2026 New Year flower recycling campaign

Luohu district in Shenzhen is set to launch its 2026 Lunar New Year flower and kumquat recycling campaign, introducing an upgraded collection system aimed at improving resource reuse and promoting environmentally friendly post-holiday waste management.
This year, the district has established a comprehensive recycling network featuring full coverage, multi-channel response and professional collection services. A fleet of seven specialized collection vehicles will be deployed, operating under a combined model of scheduled collection at designated locations and appointment-based doorstep pickup, with all services provided free of charge to residents.
Residents can submit recycling requests through the "Shen Classification" WeChat mini program or via a dedicated hotline. Authorities advise residents to make appointments through WeChat if phone lines are busy, after which staff will arrange collection services in a timely manner.
Prior to pickup, residents are encouraged to move discarded New Year flowers and kumquat plants to designated temporary storage points within residential communities, urban villages or workplace compounds, allowing collection vehicles to stop and load efficiently.
Collected materials will be processed under a "plant–pot–soil separation" system. Viable plants will be replanted and cultivated for urban landscaping projects, while intact flowerpots and supporting structures will be cleaned and reused. Withered plants and planting soil will be crushed and composted into organic fertilizer, helping transform holiday waste into reusable resources.
In addition, from March 20 to March 24, 2026, residents and businesses may visit Luohu's temporary storage and sorting base to collect recycled flowerpots, soil and related materials free of charge, further promoting resource circulation and sustainable urban practices.
