Luohu Art Museum set for major upgrade

At the beginning of 2026, the renovation and expansion project of Luohu Art Museum kicked off. Construction has entered the enclosure stage, with completion scheduled for the end of 2028.
Repositioned as a "Shenzhen-Hong Kong Art Living Room," the renewed museum aims to become a new cultural landmark for the district.
The upgrade adopts an urban garden concept, creating an art oasis within a dense urban setting. While retaining parts of the original buildings and plaza layout, the project significantly expands usable space—nearly quadrupling the original area—to support a more diverse and layered public art experience.
A newly built main hall will serve as the visual centerpiece of the complex, freeing up more ground-level public space through an elevated and interwoven design. A large semi-underground exhibition hall linking the new and existing buildings will function as the central hub, connecting different galleries and creating a smooth and flexible visitor route.
The project prioritizes green space, opening up an approximately 5,000-square-meter art park facing Chunfeng Road. Visitors will be able to walk freely through the park, rest under trees, and glimpse artistic activities inside the museum, allowing art to blend seamlessly into everyday urban life.
In terms of functionality, the upgraded museum will feature high-standard exhibition halls for both major touring exhibitions and experimental projects, a fully equipped multi-purpose hall for performances, screenings and academic events, and lifestyle-oriented spaces such as rooftop art gardens, immersive reading areas, art shops and open studios. Together, these spaces will extend art appreciation from passive viewing to interactive, experiential engagement.
The project will adopt an integrated "construction plus operation" model, introducing professional teams to manage both development and future operations, and exploring sustainable approaches to public cultural facility management.
Looking ahead, Luohu Art Museum will integrate professional exhibitions, interactive workshops, public art education and diverse cultural experiences to create an open and inspiring urban art space.
