Luohu to launch trial operation of new library and youth center on Jan. 1, 2026

A major new cultural landmark in Luohu district is set to begin trial operations on Jan. 1, 2026, with the opening of the district’s “one library, one center” complex, which comprises a new district library and a youth center.
Covering a total floor area of about 77,000 square meters, the complex features a 21-story library, a 17-story youth center and supporting facilities. Once fully operational, it is expected to significantly enhance Luohu’s public cultural service system and inject fresh momentum into the district’s cultural development.
Strategically located, the complex sits near three major border ports and links five key commercial areas. It is directly connected to Metro Line 5, ensuring efficient and convenient access. With schools and residential communities in close proximity, the project is designed to meet the needs of both young people and local residents, creating an integrated space that combines transport convenience with everyday cultural life.
More than a traditional reading venue, the new Luohu district library is envisioned as a “future knowledge hub” that brings together culture, technology and creativity. It is equipped with advanced smart technologies, including AI-powered book-sorting systems that rapidly return books to shelves, robotic book delivery across floors, and self-service borrowing and return functions enabled by quick scanning.
An intelligent acquisition and cataloging system automates the entire process from book entry to shelving. Serving as the central book distribution hub for the district’s public library network, the new library is supported by an automated smart storage system capable of accurately managing and dispatching each volume.
Carefully designed interior spaces further enhance the visitor experience, with dedicated areas for immersive adult reading, youth-focused activities and warm parent-child reading, ensuring that users of all ages can find a space suited to their needs.
The youth center, comprising three underground levels and 17 above-ground floors, has a floor area of about 38,000 square meters. Its facilities include a 500-seat professional theater, a 300-seat children’s theater, an indoor sports hall, two themed exhibition areas and 50 training classrooms, providing comprehensive support for the well-rounded development of young people in the district.
