Driverless shuttle bus service launched in Luohu

Recently, Luohu District officially launched its pilot driverless shuttle bus project in the Shenzhen-Hong Kong integrated demonstration block, offering citizens free rides through an online reservation system.
The project adopts a government–enterprise cooperation model. It is coordinated by the Luohu District Government and implemented by the Luohu Administration of the Shenzhen Municipal Transport Bureau, with Shenzhen Bus Group operating three autonomous shuttles developed by Guangzhou WeRide Technology Co., Ltd. The service will run for three years.
The shuttle route starts from Luohu Checkpoint and stops at Guomao, Shun Hing Square, Grand Theatre, The Mixc Food Court, and The Mixc shopping mall. It links together historic city landmarks such as Guomao Tower, Shenzhen Book City, and the Grand Theatre, while also connecting major commercial complexes including The Mixc. The route covers and radiates to five of Luohu’s distinctive consumption blocks: Renmin South, Dongmen, Sungang, Caiwuwei, and Shuibei.
The vehicles are equipped with WeRide’s factory-installed L4-level advanced autonomous driving system. Each shuttle can carry up to eight passengers, including one onboard safety operator. Designed without traditional rear-view mirrors, windshield wipers, or a fixed steering wheel, the minimalist appearance reflects cutting-edge technology. With 360-degree environmental sensing, the shuttles can accurately detect complex road conditions and handle diverse traffic scenarios with ease.
This innovative project not only enriches Luohu’s public transport options but also showcases the district’s commitment to smart mobility and the deep integration of technology with urban life.
