Guangdong hospital partners with Luohu to promote proactive health

On June 26, the Guangdong Second Provincial General Hospital (GDSGH) and Luohu District People’s Hospital in Shenzhen signed a cooperation agreement. As part of the collaboration, the Luohu hospital will display a new sign reading "Guangdong Second Provincial General Hospital Shenzhen Proactive Health Hospital."
The two institutions will collaborate across several key areas — including medical management, talent development, and clinical specialty enhancement — to jointly safeguard public health in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
At the heart of the partnership is the concept of proactive health, a comprehensive health management model that shifts the focus from passive treatment to active prevention and intervention. It encourages individuals or groups to monitor, prevent and manage their health using scientific tools and medical knowledge. The goal is to detect potential risks early and implement timely interventions to prevent disease, maintain wellness, and improve quality of life. The model highlights the individual’s central role in maintaining their own health.
As part of the collaboration, GDSGH will send medical personnel to Luohu based on local needs, supporting joint outpatient services, surgical cooperation, and a fast-track referral system for patients. Senior specialists with advanced credentials will also take part in hospital management to help raise standards and strengthen specialty departments.
The two sides will also jointly establish a diabesity reversal center to address chronic conditions such as diabetes and obesity. The center will promote a shift in chronic disease management — from a traditional treatment-based model to one centered on prevention and health management — empowering patients to move from passive care to active intervention.
Looking ahead, the two hospitals will explore an innovative healthcare model that integrates prevention and treatment, accelerates the application of new medical technologies, and fosters collaboration between provincial and district-level institutions. The initiative aims to provide more accessible, high-quality healthcare services to residents in Shenzhen and surrounding areas.
