Barrier-free running trail connects two parks in Luohu

Recently, a new landscape running trail connecting Honghu Park and People's Park in Luohu district has officially opened to the public, offering a barrier-free, age-friendly recreational space for residents and visitors alike.
The project features rest platforms and accessible facilities near the south entrance of Honghu Park and includes a scenic walkway that links the two major parks via the Sun’gang East Overpass Community Park. Designed with users of all ages and mobility levels in mind, the trail offers a pleasant environment for both morning joggers and casual strollers.
As part of Luohu’s broader push to create inclusive public spaces, the project overcame several technical challenges. Situated within a flood detention zone and above underground gas pipelines, its development required repeated feasibility studies and coordination with multiple departments, including water, gas and transportation, to ensure safe construction.
More than just an access path, the trail is set to serve as a key connector for cultural and recreational events. From June 12 to July 6, the 2025 Shenzhen Lotus Flower Festival is being held at Honghu Park. With the new walkway in place, visitors can now move freely between the two parks, enjoying scenic transitions and immersive experiences — highlighted in an ancient Chinese poem "Green lotus leaves outspread as far as boundless sky, pink lotus blossoms take from sunshine a new dye."
This barrier-free link enriches the public experience by enabling seamless travel across different themed gardens. It also encourages mutual foot traffic between the parks, boosting the visibility and cohesion of Shenzhen's park system. The project exemplifies a successful integration of ecological and social value, reinforcing Luohu’s commitment to a more livable and accessible urban environment.
