Shenzhen accelerates low-altitude economy with 'sky city' development

Shenzhen is fast-tracking the development of a globally leading "sky city" as part of its ambitious push into the low-altitude economy, establishing itself at the forefront of this emerging sector. The integration of drone technology into urban governance is rapidly gaining momentum, drawing attention from both the public and industry observers.
A notable example comes from Luohu district, where the first dedicated drone airport was launched in December 2023 in the Liantang sub-district. The site underwent extensive testing, on-the-ground evaluations, and location analyses to optimize its operations, laying the groundwork for future expansion of similar facilities.
By April 2025, Luohu had significantly expanded its capabilities with the official launch of its 15th drone airport, completing full coverage across all 10 sub-districts.
"Each sub-district is now equipped with a DJI drone station, with drones acting as mappers, patrollers and safety monitors," said Han Tao, deputy director of Luohu Smart City Construction Center. "This initiative delivers more efficient and convenient services for our residents."
