National Go team establishes Shenzhen base

On June 23, the China National Go Team (Shenzhen) officially established its base in Shenzhen’s Luohu district. On the same day, Shenzhen-based professional Go player Yang Kaiwen won the 15th Chunlan Cup, claiming victory in the best-of-three finals.
The new Shenzhen branch of the national team is jointly established by the China National Go Team, the Shenzhen Mass Sports Promotion Center, the Luohu District Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism and Sports, and Opple Lighting Co., Ltd.
The initiative aims to promote the high-quality development of both Chinese and Shenzhen Go, launch multi-level, wide-ranging Go activities, further popularize and celebrate Go culture, and foster a strong cultural atmosphere. It will also contribute to Luohu’s ambition to become a pioneer district in mind sports and Shenzhen’s vision of becoming an internationally renowned sports city.
As part of the partnership, the national team will hold annual training camps in Luohu. Coaches and players will also participate in public events and outreach programs to promote Go locally.
Shenzhen plans to leverage this opportunity to host high-level professional Go tournaments, expand its competitive event system, nurture youth talent, and raise the overall standard of the sport. The city also aims to accelerate the development of campus Go programs and integrate resources related to Go education, training, and industry.
