Shenzhen Team prepares for Guangdong City Football Super League
The 2026 Guangdong City Football Super League will officially open on April 25 in Guangzhou, with the Shenzhen team set to play its first match on April 26 in an away game against Meizhou.
As the tournament approaches, Shenzhen players say they are making full use of the final days of preparation, following coaching instructions closely, training intensively, and aiming to secure a strong opening victory to build momentum for the season.
The Shenzhen squad began its selection and training program on March 12, following principles of local participation and broad public engagement. The final 40-player roster was formed through a combination of youth academy athletes and open public recruitment over a three-week selection period.
The team is notably young and diverse, drawing players from a wide range of backgrounds, including university students, youth coaches, and corporate employees. Leading the squad is former Chinese national team defender and Shenzhen football legend Zhu Bo, who earned 111 caps for China and is known as one of the national team's "centurions."
Drawing on his extensive playing and coaching experience, Zhu has developed a tailored, systematic training program that reflects the team's youthful and varied composition. The plan focuses on strengthening individual technical skills, refining tactical coordination, and unlocking each player's potential to ensure the team enters the competition in peak condition.
