Shenzhen Metro sets new ridership record
On Aug. 8, Shenzhen Metro carried 11.2092 million passengers, marking the highest daily ridership so far this year and the second-highest in its history — only the second time it has exceeded 11 million in a single day. The city ranked among the top three Chinese mainland metro systems for daily ridership that day.
Whether for sightseeing, business travel, family visits, exhibitions, performance or work, Shenzhen’s appeal to travelers nationwide has continued to grow.
This year, the network has surpassed 10 million daily trips on 38 occasions, far exceeding the previous annual record of 15. Since the summer travel season began on July 1, the city has seen 19 days with more than 10 million passengers in just 40 days.
From January to July, Shenzhen Metro’s average daily ridership reached 8.8092 million, up 610,500 passengers, or 7.45% year-on-year — the largest increase among mainland cities for the second consecutive year. As of Aug. 9, its 2025 passenger intensity stood at 15,100 passengers per kilometer per day, ranking first nationwide.
