New science alliance launched to power innovation across Shenzhen and Dongguan
On June 21, the Science Alliance of the Pilot Zone for the Comprehensive National Science Center in the Greater Bay Area was officially launched. Anchored in Shenzhen's Guangming Science City and Dongguan's Songshan Lake Science City, the alliance brings together universities, research institutes, major scientific facilities, and high-tech enterprises from both cities.
Designed to promote cross-regional, cross-institutional, and interdisciplinary collaboration, the alliance aims to strengthen the joint development and sharing of innovation resources. It will foster the formation of interconnected ecosystems for research, daily life, and transportation — advancing the creation of a "dual-city, region-wide synergy" innovation community.
To enhance connectivity, Shenzhen and Dongguan plan to build a 13-kilometer express corridor linking the two science cities, with a projected capacity of 9,000 vehicles per hour. Urban rail integration is also underway: Shenzhen Metro Line 6’s branch line will connect with Dongguan Metro Line 1, while the upcoming north extension of Shenzhen Metro Line 13 will link with Dongguan Metro Line 5. Once operational, the two lines are expected to serve up to 35,000 passengers per hour combined.
