Shenzhen cultural venues roll out International Children's Day programs
Museums, libraries and cultural institutions across Shenzhen launched a variety of exhibitions and interactive activities for International Children's Day, offering young visitors opportunities to explore science, history, art and intangible cultural heritage.
At the Shenzhen Museum, the exhibition "The World of Cats and Dogs" combines academic research with interactive experiences to explore the relationship between humans and their animal companions through archaeology, animal behavior, genetics and neuroscience.
Built around the theme of understanding cats, dogs and their coexistence with humans, the exhibition features three thematic sections and traces thousands of years of shared history between people and their companion animals.
Another exhibition, "A Century of the Three Yan States," focuses on the Former Yan, Later Yan and Northern Yan regimes established by the Murong Xianbei during the Wei and Jin dynasties (220–420). Featuring 157 sets of cultural relics, including armor, gold ornaments, mural reproductions and glassware, the exhibition highlights ethnic integration and cultural development during the period.
At the Shenzhen Cultural Center, children were invited to experience the traditional craft of inside painting, a form of intangible cultural heritage, under the guidance of representative inheritor Wang Mengliang. Participants created their own artworks while learning about the history and techniques of the craft.
The center also hosted a hands-on workshop where children became Monkey King puppet makers, creating their own Sun Wukong puppets using paper cups, wooden sticks and colored paper. Under the guidance of heritage practitioners, participants learned both puppet-making techniques and performance skills.
Meanwhile, the Shenzhen Library launched the exhibition "Bay Area Children's Dreams: Drawing the Future," featuring more than 800 original children's picture books. The works showcase children's creativity and imagination through illustrations and stories created from their own perspectives.
Additional Children's Day activities were organized at venues including the Shenzhen Museum of Contemporary Art and Urban Planning, Nanshan Museum, Shenzhen Science and Technology Museum, Shenzhen Art Museum, Shenzhen International Art Museum, and Shenzhen Bay Cultural Plaza, providing young visitors with a wide range of cultural and educational experiences.
