National Games Go finals held at Shenzhen Qiyuan
The finals of the Go event in the mass competition category of the 15th National Games took place Oct. 18–21 at the Shenzhen Qiyuan, where five gold medals were awarded on the second competition day, Oct. 19.
Zhejiang's Li Qincheng won the men's individual open group, while Jiangsu's Li Sixuan claimed the women's title. The men's and women's individual amateur group championships both went to players from Shanghai — Wang Chen and Xu Yichen, respectively. In the mixed doubles amateur group, the gold medal was secured by Shandong's Wang Bendong and Peng Leyi.
Li Qincheng, visibly moved after his victory, said the gold medal held special significance for him. He admitted feeling nervous before the final round but was relieved to win after a smooth match. Li credited his success to his team's systematic preparation for the National Games format and said he is now focused on the upcoming team event on Oct. 20. He also praised the Shenzhen Qiyuan for its beautiful setting and excellent facilities, which created an ideal environment for the players.
Women's champion Li Sixuan said the victory had greatly boosted her confidence. She shared that her passion for Go began at the age of five and a half under her father's guidance. Speaking highly of the competition venue, she added, "There are badminton and tennis courts nearby where we can exercise after matches. I think that's wonderful."
