International industrial design technology invitational kicks off in Shenzhen
The 2025 International Invitational of the Industrial Design Technology competition, part of WorldSkills, opened on May 14 at Shenzhen Technician Institute. The event brings together over 50 experts and contestants from nine countries—including China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, South Africa, Thailand, Indonesia, Iran, Uzbekistan, and Mongolia—along with representatives from sponsor enterprises and young skilled professionals.
This international gathering focuses on cutting-edge industrial design technology, providing a platform for young talents worldwide to exchange ideas, showcase their skills, and pursue their dreams.
The competition covers three core modules: design research and concept sketching, 3D modeling and printing, and prototype development with proposal presentation. Contestants are challenged to analyze market needs, define product positioning, and deliver innovative design concepts through both hand-drawn and digital techniques—culminating in 3D-printed prototypes. The competition puts their comprehensive design, artistic, and technical skills to the test.
First introduced at the 47th WorldSkills Competition in 2024, the Industrial Design Technology event saw China's Zhuo Jiapeng, a student from Shenzhen Technician Institute, win the event's inaugural gold medal. This year’s invitational continues to advance the concept of "new productive forces," aiming to enhance participants' innovation, coordination, and teamwork capabilities while fostering technical exchanges among teams.
