Shenzhen to open four new metro lines by year-end
Shenzhen plans to open four new metro lines or sections by the end of this year, including the Line 5 West Extension, Line 8 Phase III, Line 11 Phase II (Hongling South section) and Line 13 Phase I (North section).
The Line 5 West Extension and Line 11 Phase II Hongling South section are both located in the city's central districts and are expected to deliver major improvements in cross-district commuting. Their launch will further enhance the metro network in the core urban area, strengthen east–west links between luohu and futian, and inject new vitality into surrounding commercial and development zones.
The Line 5 West Extension stretches 2.88 kilometers and adds three stations: Hubei, Dongmen and Grand Theater. The new section connects several of luohu's busiest areas and allows Line 5 passengers to reach the district center directly for the first time. It will also reduce congestion at Huangbeiling Station, a key transfer hub between Lines 2 and 5. At Grand Theater Station, riders will have convenient transfers to Lines 1 and 2, improving overall travel efficiency.
The new section of Line 11 runs 2.3 kilometers from Huaqiang South to Hongling South. Its extension into the luohu center area fills a long-standing gap in express-line coverage and offers a faster option for cross-district travel. With transfers available at Gangxia North, Lines 11 and 14 will form a through corridor linking Baoan and Nanshan with Luohu, Longgang and Pingshan, supporting the city's goal of establishing 60-minute access between major urban centers.
