Guangdong hosts 15th National Games
On Sunday, the opening ceremony of the 15th National Games was held at Guangdong Olympic Sports Center. Guangdong, as a host, implemented the principles of "green, shared, open, and clean" and the requirements of "simple, safe, and spectacular," showing full readiness for the event.
Technology empowered the Games
The torch relay, launched on November 2, featured high-tech elements, including intelligent robots, driverless vehicles, and drones. AR navigation, smart wheelchairs, voice recognition, and gesture interaction were applied in venues to enhance accessibility and spectator experience.
Over 90% of the 75 venues in Guangdong were existing facilities upgraded with smart technology, avoiding new large-scale constructions. Advanced power and digital command systems ensured safe and efficient operations in Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Shantou, while sustainable upgrades and low-carbon solutions minimized environmental impact.
Mass participation fueled city spirit
Competitions had already begun, with events such as U18 and U20 men's football, competitive badminton, gate ball, and chess & card tournaments progressing smoothly. Cultural and sports activities across the province energized citizens, from Shenzhen’s sports carnivals to Guangzhou’s community events for Hong Kong and Macau residents, and immersive local performances in Dongguan and Shantou. Public engagement initiatives, such as free fitness programs and large-scale skills training, encouraged widespread participation.
Driving urban development and city image
The Games also accelerated urban upgrades. Shenzhen renovated over 44,000 square meters of building façades, upgraded green spaces at 32 points, and renewed 4,211 urban facilities.
Across Guangdong, venues and infrastructure combined practical functions with local culture, enhancing both citizen experience and city image. The Games served as a platform to promote participation, cultivate sports culture, and create long-term benefits for cities and residents.
