Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao gear up for 15th National Games
The 15th National Games of China will take place from November 9 to 21 across Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao — marking the first time the three regions will jointly host a national multi-sport event.
As the 100-day countdown to the opening ceremony begins, a variety of public sports events have been held throughout the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to build momentum.
On August 2, the organizing committee hosted a themed event in Shenzhen titled "Together in the Bay Area, United for the Games," showcasing the final preparations for both the 15th National Games and the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities & the 9th National Special Olympic Games.
That same day, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government held a "100-Day Countdown Event" at the Hong Kong Velodrome, featuring a 100-kilometer cycling challenge and a sports carnival.
On August 1, Macao launched a series of celebrations, including a “100-Day Fitness Walk” that started at the Ruins of St. Paul’s, passed by St. Dominic’s Church, and concluded at Senado Square. The square also hosted lion and dragon dance performances and martial arts demonstrations, with performers actively engaging residents and tourists alike.
The 15th National Games will feature 34 major competition categories and 419 minor events, with over 15,000 athletes expected to compete in the finals. The mass sports program includes 23 major categories and 166 minor events, with about 11,000 amateur athletes participating.
According to Wang Xi, vice chairman of the organizing committee and a member of the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, this year’s Games follow a principle of frugality and strict budgeting. No large-scale venues or athlete villages are being newly built. Over 90% of the 75 competition venues in Guangdong have been renovated from existing facilities, and all venue upgrades have now been completed.
